OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY
Rachel started working in clay at the age of 12 when her father was looking for classes for her and her siblings to take shortly after her mother passed away. One of his co-workers was a pottery teacher at Creative Clay Studios in Alexandria, VA. Soon all of the Witt children were involved in classes, as was their father Russ. She continued to work in clay throughout her high school, college and grad school years. When Creative Clay went under in 2013 a group of Creative Clay members and students packed up everything they could and started looking for a new space. That space came to fruition in August of 2014 in the form of Alexandria Clay Co-Op. Rachel has been working out of this studio ever since.

During the pandemic Rachel started experimenting with cuerda seca, a Portuguese technique that uses a black resist to separate glazes. This painstaking technique takes hours to achieve, using small needle tipped bottles with black wax and a wide variety of glazes.

A little Witt goes a long way.
